Perched on the edge of the Red River, this 5100 square-foot home for a physician and his family makes the most of the dramatic views afforded by its site. The modestly scaled one-storey street facade (except for the vertical library element) rises under a mono-pitch roof to 3 stories of glazed splendor facing the river. Here, a deeply incised courtyard serves to break the house into private and public realms and connects the owner with the riverside via a large patio featuring a reflecting pool. The home is designed around the owner’s Balinese art collection. Among its many features are a 4-car garage, the above-mentioned library, guest quarters, a media room and a spa room that includes a swim-in-place pool. These amenities, however, did not prevent the home from being shaped and detailed using a decidedly restrained and modern palette.
