This tree house is the first of many which are to serve as forest canopy retreats. Connected by a future network of treetop trails through a mature stand of aspen, the boardwalk and tree house are intended to give visitors a flavor of the upper level canopy. The trees house is telescopic in form, and is scaled to comfortably accommodate a family of four. It sits on the western edge of the forest, oriented to open to the west, providing visitors with a commanding view of the adjoining tall grass prairies and its resident bison herd. It is also sited to consider patterns of wildlife movement within the forest and includes strategically placed “viewing blind”, side openings.
